Lo La’Qam Geela Lodge Chief

Dirk Smelser

Dirk is a life scout and brotherhood member of Lo La’Qam Geela Lodge and a member of Troop 1027 in Eureka, California. He is currently attending Eureka High School and plans to study engineering and/or business.

Previously, Dirk has served as vice chief of activities for Lo La’Qam Geela and My Chapter Rocks Conclave Vice Chief for the section. Dirk is a Lo La’Qam Geela Lodge Arrow of Honor recipient.

In his free time, Dirk enjoys patch collecting, theatre, and enjoying new experiences. A fun fact about him is that he “wears these really cool glasses at any scouting event.”

What are your biggest goals in your position for 2019?
To make sure the candidate has the best experience possible and to improve our OA relations within our summer camps.”

Ridiculous, sarcastic, predictable

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“Staffing NYLT at Camp McLoughlin because the memories I made there are worth more to me than anything.”

If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
“Bill Clary, since I have read and heard amazing things about him and he seemed like an extremely dedicated scouter.”

Who is your role model and why?
“James Alexander, because he taught me a lot about maturity and scouting in general and has also given me many new experiences and opportunities.”
